Celia Smith

Celia is Geshe Dhonam's translator and the director of Trashi Gomang and is a well-known and highly respected member of the New Zealand Buddhist community.

 

Celia began studying Buddhism and Tibetan language in 1981 in Nepal. She continued her studies in India, France and most importantly, New Zealand when she met Khensur Thabkhey Rinpoche in 1987.  She was Khensur Thabkhey’s translator from 1991 and has continued to translate for Geshe Dhonam since his arrival in 2002.

Celia is based in Westport, the west coast of the South Island, yet continues as the translator for Geshe Dhonam whenever Geshe-la is teaching  throughout New Zealand.
